AC_D4: Ninja-Harry

Welcome to the fourth day of the Advent Calendar.

Today felt like an experimental writing sort of day. So I tried to put my spin on an old HPxNaruto cliché- the one where Harry grows up training as a ninja, has a sensei, team, goes to Hogwarts etc.

Warning: So many plotholes because I ignore canon timelines.

“Sensei will be happy that you're back in Konoha,” Genma said, his senbon moving from one side of his mouth to the other as he kept his eyes fixed on the gravestone in front of him. “It's been a long time since you visited.”

The guilt nearly overpowered her, but Shizune stepped forward and stood beside her old team-mate, letting old memories flood her mind. Memories of the first time she's met her team and thought they'd never get along. Memories of eating with her entire team eating out after training. And even vivid memories of sensei's lifeless body after she saved them during the war. “I couldn't leave Tsunade-sama's side. Not when she was...”

“I know,” Genma said. “I'm sure sensei understands too. She was nice like that. Maybe too nice.”

“Did Jiraiya-sama leave those?” Shizune said after a long moment, motioning to the large bouquet of colourful flowers that livened up the entire space.

Genma nodded. “Sensei was his student. She's probably happy that he's not doing what he does for Minato-san's grave. ”

Shizune turned to him, unable to hide her curiosity.

“He leaves a copy of his books there and some sake along with a whole bunch of blinding yellow flowers.”

“Sensei would probably be happier if the whole team was here to visit her,” Shizune said, unable to ignore the absence of their third team-mate. “After all he was her favourite.”

“Sensei didn't have favourites,” Genma huffed with exaggerated unhappiness. “And even if she did, I would be the favourite.”

Shizune's lips twitched upwards in a smile.

“She just taught him her wind techniques because he had a strong wind affinity.” Genma said, “She taught me all the senbon techniques.”

“She taught all of us how to use senbon,” Shizune said, feeling a surge of familiar fondness as she touched the senbon hidden in her sleeves. “Idiot.”

Genma grinned for an instant just like old times. But he sobered in the next instant. “It's been over 20 years since he left on that mission. He's probably dead.”

The wind picked up around them .

“Hey now, that's a rude thing to say about your team-mate,” a hoarse voice interrupted. “Especially since he always beat you at jan ken pon.”

Shizune couldn't say which one of them turned faster, but they both stared at the newcomer with wide eyes.

With his messy mop of black hair, faded lightning-shaped scar on his forehead and emerald green eyes behind ugly round glasses, he looked just like Shizune imagined. What she hadn't imagined when she'd picture her team-mate as an adult was the gaunt pallor of his face and the sheer weariness in his eyes.

But he smiled at them.

“Shizune, Genma,” the green eyes looked at each of them in turn before stopping to linger on the gravestone. “Sensei, I'm back.”

Some possible background/additional info for this that I didn't want to write out because then I wouldn't be able to post this today.
  • No one knows how Harry came to be in Konoha. He was just an orphan- no one gave him a second glance. He grew up, went to academy, landed on a team with Shizune and Genma when he was 9. They become Team Senbon. Their sensei was Jiraiya's student and Minato's teammate.
  • After she died during the war, and Harry turns 11- he learns about the Wizarding World and the elders decide to make use of this opportunity?? Not sure about that. Anyway, he gets sent off in secret. Shizune has to leave with Tsunade and Genma is the only one from the team left in Konoha.
  • Harry is sent away with the mission of opening up trade, etc with this new community that he apparently hails from. He returns after many years (just after Tsunade become Hokage) because he's had to save the wizarding world first. Also he's successfully opened up trade or something between Konoha and magical world (or just a few groups in the magical world)? Not everyone is happy with that- cue all sorts of mayhem?
  • Or maybe he failed in his original ninja mission after he saved the wizarding world?
I can honestly say I didn't expect how this turned out at all.
