There's Something about Neji: Birthday Drabble

A little drabble to celebrate Neji's birthday.

Here's Part 1. and Part 2 and Part 3(but not really) of this verse.

“I think this will be the most peaceful birthday I've ever had.” Neji looked at the rebuilt Temple with I've always been intrigued by the meditation techniques used by the monks here.”

“What?” Harry said in surprise.

Neji stared at him. “I like meditating.”

“It's your birthday so we can meditate with the monks later, if you want. But that's not why I brought you up here.” Harry said, “I want to show you something. So, close your eyes.”

Neji didn't say a word as he tilted his head with a considering look.

Harry rolled his eyes and added, “Don't use your Byakugan either.”

Neji's lips twitched up for an instant but he dutifully closed his eyes and held his hand out.

With a hasty spell to keep his palms dry, Harry intertwined his fingers with Neji's and tugged him forward on the even path. “You need to be really quiet,” Harry said as they passed through a familiar hidden path behind the temple. “Sentoki did say they feel safe here, but it's still better not to spook them.”

Soft and distant chirps filled the air.

“Open your eyes,” Harry said, his words stumbling out in excitement.

Even from their spot right at the very outer edge of the area, the birds were easy to see. Hundreds of different birds, with various colours of bright plumage, filled every visible spot.

“I've never seen so many different species together in one place. All these colours,” Neji whispered, eyes darting around with wonder, not letting go of Harry's hand. “Does this always happen here?”

“Not always,” Harry said and smiled at a smug Hedwig who was perched on a branch to the side. “Do you want to get a closer look?”

“We shouldn't disturb them,” Neji shook his head.

Harry pulled out a bag of seeds, “They'll come closer when they know you've got food. Unless of course, you want to go and meditate instead.”

Neji swiped the bag and even untangled his fingers from Harry's to open it.

Harry didn't mind the loss too much, he couldn't, not when he saw Neji's smile.

To be honest, I just felt like making use of my random Fire Temple Worldbuilding.
